Progressive Railroading and RailTrends® have named Norfolk Southern Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Wick Moorman the 2013 recipient of its "Railroad Innovator Award," which recognizes an individual's outstanding achievement in the rail industry.Moorman, who started his NS career as a co-op student in 1970, has served the Class I in numerous leadership capacities. He previously was assistant vice president of stations, terminals and transportation planning; vice president of personnel and labor relations; and vice president of information technology. Before being named president of NS in 2004, he also served as president of Thoroughbred Technology and Telecommunications and as senior vice president of corporate planning and services. Moorman was named CEO in 2005, and chairman in 2006, succeeding David Goode. During his CEO tenure at NS, Moorman has led the charge to inculcate a safety culture change. He's embraced the link between technology, operating efficiency and productivity. He's pushed the strategic partnership envelope in key rail corridors, which has strengthened the railroad's intermodal business. Moorman has charted a unique course for NS, helping to keep the Class I on the better-service track.Progressive Railroading previously presented Railroad Innovator Awards to Union Pacific Corp.
