UP to upgrade Illinois line
advertisement
Earlier this month, Union Pacific Railroad launched a $4 million track improvement project on its West Chicago Line between Elmhurst and West Chicago, Ill. The Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp. (Metra), which uses the line, is contributing $450,000 for the project.
To be completed by month’s end, the project calls for removing and installing 28,500 ties, spreading 9,100 tons of ballast and replacing surfaces at two grade crossings.
The project is part of UP’s $3.1 billion capital spending budget this year. Since 2003, the railroad has spent $535 million on capital projects in Illinois.
