TransLink has announced upcoming elevator and escalator closures for the next round of modernization work at its SkyTrain stations in Vancouver, British Columbia. Work will begin this month to replace elevators at the Burrard and Royal Oak stations on the Expo Line and escalators at the Gilmore and Production Way–University stations on the Millennium Line.
The ongoing modernization program will upgrade a total of 21 original elevators across 15 stations, as well as 24 escalators on the Millennium Line that have been in service since 2002, TransLink officials said in a press release. Nine new Expo Line elevators and four new escalators at the Commercial-Broadway station are already in service.
Work on the Burrard station elevators will begin July 21 and last through spring 2027. Work on the Royal Oak Station elevators will begin July 28 and is expected to take less than four months to complete.
Escalator replacement work begins at Gilmore and Production Way–University stations July 20. All three escalators at Gilmore Station will be replaced by early 2029; the first is expected to be completed in spring 2027. The escalator at Production Way–University Station is expected to be completed in summer 2027.
