NJ Transit awards design contract for $1.3 billion Portal Bridge replacement
advertisement
New Jersey Transit recently contracted a Jacobs Engineering Group Inc./Gannett Fleming Transit & Rail Systems/HNTB Corp. joint venture to provide design services for the Portal Bridge Capacity Enhancement Project.
To be completed in 2017, the $1.3 billion project calls for replacing a 98-year-old double-track swing bridge that crosses the Hackensack River. NJ Transit and Amtrak trains use the bridge.
The existing structure will be replaced with two bridges on either side of it — a fixed, three-track bridge and a double-track, movable 400-foot-long center span bridge.
