Rail News: Maintenance Of Way

CSXT to conduct maintenance blitz on line between South Carolina and Kentucky

On July 2, CSX Transportation will begin a major track rehabilitation project on a line between Parke Junction, S.C., and Shelby, Ky.

About 300 employees will install 212,000 linear feet of rail, lay 75,000 tons of ballast, surface 58 miles and complete trackwork in the Sandy Ridge tunnel.

CSXT will shutdown the line until the project is completed on July 11.

Each year in early July, the Class I conducts a “Jamboree” or track maintenance blitz under which a large line rehabilitation project is completed in two weeks or less. In 1999, a CSXT machine operator coined the term Jamboree during a smaller-scale track-maintenance project on the railroad's Chicago-to-Evanston, Ind., line.
