Rail News: Maintenance Of Way
Today, Alaska Railroad Corp. (ARRC) plans to host an open house in Ship Creek to enable the public to review and comment on the railroad's 2004 capital improvement program.
The first of four scheduled open houses, the meeting will enable ARRC officials to discuss proposed and continuing freight- and transit-rail projects located along the railroad's Seward-to-Fairbanks system, including several Anchorage-area projects.
To be funded all or in part by the Federal Railroad and Transit administrations, the 2004 projects include expanding the North Ship Creek Yard; realigning and improving Anchorage-to-Wasilla track; improving Anchorage rail capacity; building an Anchorage operations center; installing a train-whistle noise reduction system in Anchorage; and constructing an intermodal facility with pedestrian amenities in Ship Creek.
The railroad also plans to host open houses Jan. 9, Jan. 13 and Feb. 13 in Fairbanks, Wasilla and Seward, respectively.
