WMATA seeks to build track to test trains, train employees
advertisement
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) officials want to build a special track to test trains, and train track inspectors, train operators and other employees.
The authority is eyeing two locations for the 10,000-foot to 15,000-foot track: between the New Carrollton and Landover rail stations, or between the Greenbelt and College Park stations.
WMATA currently tests new and overhauled trains when the system is closed or during non-rush hours. And it’ll be testing plenty of them in the coming months; the authority expects to take delivery of a total of 184 cars by 2007’s end.
Officials are studying costs and potential locations.
