Amtrak has initiated a capacity planning study for its passenger-rail service between New Haven, Connecticut, and Providence, Rhode Island, along the Northeast Corridor (NEC).
The goal of the study is to address long-term needs and goals for mobility, economic prosperity and quality of life in the communities along the section of the NEC while being mindful of critical historical, environmental and cultural resource concerns, Amtrak officials said in a press release.
Amtrak and its state and federal partners will conduct public outreach efforts, evaluate potential alignment alternatives and improvements to existing rail lines, define the capital investments needed for the section of line and create a final report with a summary of results and next steps.
A dedicated website was created for local residents and stakeholders to ask questions about the study, submit project feedback, inquire about public meetings and sign up for periodic updates on the study.
