South Carolina Ports' Inland Port Dillon completed 48,761 rail container moves in 2025, a 33% increase from the prior year and the most in a calendar year on record, port officials announced yesterday.
The increase in rail container volume was attributed primarily to an increase in soybean exports. Last year, SC Ports partnered with the South Carolina Department of Agriculture and private stakeholders to connect soybean farmers to new international markets, SC Ports officials said in a press release. This directly boosted soybean exports through Inland Port Dillon by 35% in July and August 2025.
"As part of a rapid response to a domestic plant closure and tough economic conditions, the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, SC Ports and other local partners exported an additional 1.2 million bushels of soybeans, creating further opportunities for our farmers," said South Carolina Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers.
SC Ports owns and operates the Port of Charleston's marine container terminals and two rail-served inland ports in Dillon and Greer. CSX and Norfolk Southern Railway serve the Charleston port; CSX provides rail service to Inland Port Dillon; and NS serves Inland Port Greer.
