Rail News: Intermodal
Canadian National Railway Co. recently named Paul Waite vice president of IMX, an "Intermodal Excellence" initiative the Class I launched last year to improve service quality and efficiency. The railroad also announced Vice President of Intermodal William Berry has retired.
Since June 2003, Waite has lead IMX's development and implementation. He most recently served as assistant vice president, domestic, responsible for all North American intermodal sales and marketing. During his 30-year CN career, Waite has served in numerous sales, marketing and business-development positions.
Under IMX, CN applies its scheduled railroading practices — first introduced to the carload segment — to intermodal business. The Class I provides pre-defined daily train capacity; slot, gate and equipment reservations; and day-of-week pricing. The initiative has helped CN meet intermodal equipment demands and make terminals more fluid, according to a prepared statement.
