Rail News: High-Speed Rail

Chinese railway contracts project managers for high-speed rail line

A consortium comprising international consulting and engineering company ARCADIS, MAA Engineering Consultants International Ltd. and several Chinese companies recently obtained a $19 million contract to provide construction management services for a high-speed rail line in China.

Scheduled to be complete by 2011, the 153-mile section will connect Wuhan and Hwadu, and be part of the 581-mile Wuhan-to-Guangzhou high-speed rail line. Designed to handle trains traveling at speeds up to 217 mph, the line will be the country’s first high-speed system. The line eventually will link Beijing, Gunagzhou and Shenzhen with Hong Kong.
