CSX officials joined HD Hyundai Power Transformers USA (HDHPT) leaders on March 6 for the groundbreaking on a $200 million expansion of the company's manufacturing operations in Montgomery, Alabama.
The expansion will make room for HDHPT to manufacture even larger transformer units in the United States, CSX officials said in a press release. HDHPT has been producing power transformers in Montgomery since 2011.
"As this project moves forward, our team is working closely with CSX’s clearance bureau, which specializes in the logistics of complex, dimensional moves, to help HDHPT further strengthen its supply chain, support regional growth, and advance the reliability of the nation’s power grid," said Christina Bottomley, CSX vice president of business development and real estate.
The new facility is expected to open in mid-2027, Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce officials said in a separate press release. The expansion will help to position Montgomery as a leader in energy security and advanced manufacturing. HDHPT currently supplies more than 15% of the country's large core transformers, chamber officials said.
