CSX highlights safety, fuel efficiency gains in annual report

CSX yesterday shared its 2025 sustainability report, which highlights the progress made toward goals in safety, fuel efficiency, network resiliency and community impact.

The report reflects CSX's focus on operating responsibly, supporting customers and strengthening the rail network while delivering long-term value for shareholders, CSX officials said in a press release.

In 2025, CSX:

• reduced its Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) personal-injury frequency rate by 24% and its FRA train accident rate by 13%, year over year;
• achieved the best fuel efficiency among U.S. Class Is, at 0.968 gallons of diesel fuel per thousand gross ton miles;
• completed the Howard Street Tunnel project ahead of schedule and restored the Blue Ridge Subdivision;
• continued investing in locomotive modernization, safety technology and AI-enabled customer tools; and
• contributed about $18 million to communities across the CSX network, including nearly $6 million for military members, veterans and first responders.
