CSX scores strong industrial development results in 2012

CSX Corp. worked with shippers last year to attract 105 new plants or facility expansions along its lines, representing more than $3.2 billion in capital investments. The projects will create more than 4,200 jobs among shippers in more than a dozen states, CSX officials said in a prepared statement.

"These industrial facilities are expected to generate 162,000 carloads of new rail traffic in future years," said Clark Robertson, CSX's assistant vice president of regional development. "The 2012 results were especially significant in the energy markets, such as new ethanol and crude oil terminals, natural gas processing facilities and drilling supply locations."

Shippers considering a new manufacturing location can access CSX's online "Select Site" tool to obtain insights on rail-served sites certified for immediate development, including zoning and utility connections. The Class I also can offer shippers "the best rail connectivity" to more than 70 ocean, river and lake ports, CSX officials said.
