BHP Canada Inc. has signed agreements with CN and CPKC to support the movement of potash from BHP's Jansen mine in Saskatchewan to Vancouver, British Columbia, ports for access to global markets.
Under the agreements, both CN and CPKC will operate unit trains between Jansen, about 90 miles from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Westshore Terminals in Vancouver, utilizing BHP-owned rail cars. The Jansen Access Spur will enable connectivity to CN and CPKC mainlines.
“Securing rail transportation with both CN and CPKC strengthens the reliability of our supply chain and ensures we are well positioned to deliver Saskatchewan potash to global customers,” said BHP Asset President Potash Karina Gistelinck in a press release.
The initial term of the contracts is approximately four years, supporting Jansen Stage 1 production, with future arrangements to be aligned with the next phase of the project. Production at Jansen is expected to begin in mid-2027, BHP officials said.
