CN, CPKC kick off 2026-27 grain year with new August records

CN today announced it has set another monthly record for grain movement across its network. In August, CN moved 2.5 million metric tons (MMT) of grain from Western Canada, surpassing the railroad's prior record of 2.34 MMT from August 2020.

The record marks a strong start to the 2026-27 crop year as harvesting progresses across the region and new grain begins moving through the supply chain, CN officials said in a press release. The performance reflects strong customer demand, close collaboration with grain supply chain partners and consistent execution of CN's operating plan.

CPKC, too, logged a new monthly record for transporting Canadian grain and grain products in August. The railroad moved 2.54 MMT and 26,051 carloads of grain in the month, beating its previous record, set in August 2020. The record covers the first four weeks of the 2026-27 crop year, which began Aug. 1, CPKC officials said in a press release.
