CN yesterday announced it will spend C$615 million on rail infrastructure projects in British Columbia and C$165 million in Manitoba as part of the company's 2025 capital expenditures program.
Work this year in British Columbia will advance multiyear projects designed to increase fluidity in the Vancouver corridor and build capacity along CN’s network from Prince Rupert and across western Canada.
Last year, CN spent C$554 million in the province, including C$22 million on siding extensions from the Port of Vancouver to Kamloops and north to Fort St John; a C$7.6 million initial investment in the Holdom Overpass project in the Vancouver area; C$2 million on enhancements to the Thornton Tunnel; and C$7 million for upgrades to both the Lulu Island and Fraser River bridges.
Meanwhile, CN will spend C$165 million on strategic infrastructure projects, including upgrades to improve rail-yard operations in Winnipeg.
Last year, CN spent C$200 million in the province, including C$16 million for signals and communications upgrades, and C$12 million for the acquisition of tractors, trailers and other equipment.
Earlier this week, CN announced it would spend C$600 million on track maintenance and infrastructure projects in Ontario.
