CN, Ray-Mont Logistics and the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) today announced the grand opening of CANXPORT, a C$750 million export logistics facility at the Port of Prince Rupert in British Columbia.
CANXPORT, operated by Montreal-based Ray-Mont Logistics, provides expanded capacity for rail-to-container transloading of multiple export products, including from the petrochemical, forestry, agriculture and mining sectors, PRPA officials said in a press release.
As North America's closest West Coast port to Asia, the Prince Rupert port is uniquely positioned to support Canada's trade diversification strategy, PRPA officials said. The new CANXPORT facility will unlock global customers for Western Canada's trade corridor.
The development of CANXPORT was supported by a C$150 million loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB), nearly C$50 million from Transport Canada's National Trade Corridors Fund and C$25 million from British Columbia's Stronger BC program.
CN supports the operations at CANXPORT with its investment to expand the Zanardi Rapids Bridge, increase the rail corridor capacity and enhance the port's intermodal ecosystem, PRPA officials said. CN provides a direct, single-line rail connection to the port's marine and intermodal terminals.
