Rail News: Amtrak

Amtrak seeks input on corporate restructuring

Amtrak is seeking public feedback on a preliminary corporate restructuring framework, which was developed by Amtrak management. Comments can be submitted online and are due Oct. 30.

Under the proposed framework, Amtrak would remain the parent company, providing governance, strategic direction and coordination over three focused businesses: passenger services, infrastructure management and fleet management. The plan aims to "bring greater visibility into performance and costs, enable faster and better-informed decisions and align authority with responsibility and results," Amtrak officials said in a press release.

"Our management team developed this preliminary framework after extensive study and continues to seek input to be sure we get it right," said Interim Amtrak President Byl Herrmann. "Our goal is a more accountable, effective and resilient Amtrak, one that delivers more riders, more revenue and the best customer service in the transportation industry."

Starting in September, Amtrak will begin developing a detailed design and implementation plan, taking into consideration public feedback. The plan will be presented to the Amtrak board in December. Operations under the proposed structure would begin in 2027, Amtrak officials said.
