On a revenue roll: New York Regional Rail's trucking arm carries two-month load

New York Regional Rail Corp.'s (NYRR) revenue more than doubled in April and May compared with similar 2003 data, primarily because a new service offered by the holding company's trucking firm has fast become a profit center.

JS Transportation's "dispatch service" offers fixed-rate vehicles and drivers during peak demand periods to companies that don't own trucks.

"Although these dispatching services were intended to provide the company with the opportunity to fully utilize its own fleet, and to gain additional revenue by using its network of independent operators and contractors for overflow business, we see an additional market in providing transportation services for large short-term spot moves, as well," said NYRR Chief Financial Officer Joel Marcus in a prepared statement.

NYRR also owns and operates rail-barge service provider New York Cross Harbor Railroad.
