UP to speed up trains in Texas town

advertisement

Next month, Union Pacific Railroad trains moving through Orange, Texas, will be traveling faster. Beginning tomorrow, the Class I will begin increasing freight train speed from 35 mph to 50 mph and passenger train speed, up to 60 mph on a 1.3 mile segment in the city.

The railroad will gradually increase speed 5 mph per hour week until the new speed limits are reached in early March.

The changes will improve highway traffic flow and grade crossing safety because statistics show more crossing collisions occur at slower train speeds, UP said.
