Yesterday, Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority’s (WMATA) board budget committee posted the agency’s proposed fiscal-year 2006 operating and capital budgets online at www.metroopensdoors.com. The goal: to give elected officials and WMATA customers more time to review and comment on the proposals, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Richard White said in a prepared statement.
Submitted to the committee last month, the agency’s proposed $1.53 billion FY2006 budget includes funds to expand services and programs, enhance service reliability and system cleanliness, and improve safety and customer service. The proposed budget does not include a fare increase.
The budget committee will make its final recommendations in June. The FY2006 budget takes effect July 1.
