Port Authority Trans-Hudson restores limited commuter-rail service; MTA opens more lines

Yesterday, Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) resumed limited rail service for the first time since Hurricane Sandy struck the East Coast last week.
The commuter-rail service between New Jersey and New York City was scheduled to begin operating from Journal Square in Jersey City to 33rd Street in Manhattan starting at 5 a.m., and in the return direction until 10 p.m., Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) officials said in a prepared statement.
Other PATH service will remain suspended due to widespread flooding in tunnels, multiple stations and a car maintenance facility, and power outages that have shut down signals and switches, they said.
"PATH engineers, safety personnel, staff and third-party contractors are working around-the-clock with the goal of providing additional service between New Jersey and New York as soon as safely possible," PATH officials said.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) rail and subway network continues to recover. MTA New York City Transit's subway service has been restored on most lines, but work continues to restore full service. MTA Long Island Rail Road is continuing to operate a modified schedule due to to outages in two of Amtrak's four East River tunnels, MTA officials said in a prepared statement.
MTA Metro-North Railroad is operating regularly scheduled service between Stamford/New Haven and Grand Central Terminal on the New Haven Line. Harlem Line service is operating on a regular schedule between Wassaic/Southeast and Grand Central, while Hudson Line services is running regularly between Poughkeepsie, Croton-Harmon and Grand Central.
