Yesterday, the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) announced that Director of Metro Subway Operations Ralign Wells will assume the deputy administrator for operations post later this month. Wells succeeds Kathryn Waters, who last week accepted a leadership position with the American Public Transportation Association.

Wells began his MTA career in 1989 as a weekend bus operator. He continued as an operator until 1997, when he became a Metro Subway supervisor. From 2000 to 2004, he served as assistant superintendent and in 2004, became deputy director of bus operations. Wells returned to Metro in 2005 to serve as director of Metro operations.

"Ralign has been one of our most productive and forward-thinking managers for some time now and is ready for this opportunity," said MTA Administrator Paul Wiedefeld in a prepared statement. "With a strong bus and rail background, he is the logical choice to pick up where Kathy left off."

In a related announcement, MTA promoted Michael Davis to succeed Wells as director of Metro operations. An MTA employee for 23 years, Davis currently is the deputy director of Metro Subway.
