Updates from Alstom, Watco Mechanical Services and Alcoa Fastening Systems

• Alstom Transport and CFR Electrificare obtained a contract to supply and install 12 electric substations in Bucharest, Romania. The two-year renovation contract covers the substations, a video surveillance network and a local equipment control system. A division of the Romanian railways, CFR Electrificare is responsible for infrastructure.
• Watco Mechanical Services’ Millennium Rail Inc. (MRI) and Fitzgerald Railcar Services Inc. (FRSI) now operate under the Watco Mechanical Services name to unify all rail-car shops under one entity. The Watco Cos. Inc. — which owns Watco Mechanical Services as well as 19 short lines operating in 16 states — acquired MRI in May 2007 and FRSI, in June 2008. Watco Mechanical Services operates 14 car repair shops, 18 mobile mechanical shops and four locomotive shops in 14 states.
• Alcoa Fastening Systems’ Industrial Distribution Group (IDG) established a new headquarters in Tracy, Calif. The 25,000-square-foot facility provides logistics and packaging services. Later in the first quarter, the company plans to open an 8,000-square-foot logistics, distribution and packaging center in Del Rio, Texas. IDG provides fastening products to the industrial market and auto aftermarket under brand names Marson, Recoil, Keysert, and Huck.
