Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (BMWED) members on the former Elgin, Joliet & Eastern System Division (EJESD) have merged with the Unified System Division.
The merger results in 125 members now having two full-time dedicated vice general chairmen responsive to their issues on CN and the Gary Railway, BMWED officials said in a press release.
The members of the former EJESD will join USD Region 4 along with the other CN members that work under the former Illinois Central agreement. This will afford the EJESD members access to full-time officers to progress claims and conduct the day-to-day business.
"We are excited to welcome these brothers and sisters into the Unified System and offer them expanded and dedicated service," USD General Chairman Brian Rumler said. “While the previous leadership of the EJE was exceptional, having dedicated access to the entirety of the USD system office will be a boon for those members."
