Minnesota DOT seeks applicants for freight mobility, intermodal grants

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is seeking applicants for its most recent round of the Minnesota Highway Freight Program funding, with the priority being intermodal connections.
The program has up to $51.2 million in federal funding available for fiscal years 2029 and 2030. Applications are due Sept. 3; selected recipients will be announced in spring 2026, MnDOT officials said in a press release.
The MnDOT program, which receives funds from the National Highway Freight Program, funds projects that benefit freight movement, such as safety, mobility or first- and last-mile projects; railroad line and grade crossing improvements; and intermodal projects and freight transportation plans and studies.
In this round of funding, MnDOT specifically encourages applicants for projects that support intermodal connections between railroads, airports, ports and waterways.
Application information is available on the Minnesota Highway Freight Program website.
