Pittsburgh Regional Transit last week reported its July ridership numbers, which showed an increase in passenger trips across both bus and light-rail services.
On weekdays, light-rail ridership averaged 11,517 passenger trips, about the same as in July 2025, PRT officials said in a press release. However, average light-rail ridership rose on Saturdays and Sundays during the month.
For Saturday, the average light-rail ridership reached 9,251, about a 9% increase compared to July 2025, and on Sundays, the average was 6,661, an increase of 28%.
July marks the first month of the agency's fiscal-year 2027. PRT closed out FY26 with the highest ridership records in six years. Rail ridership in FY26 totaled 3,345,565 trips, up 8% from FY25. The growth of light-rail ridership reflected a return to normal travel patterns following a multi-month closure of the Red Line in FY24, PRT officials said.
