Rail News: Intermodal
Burlington Northern Santa Fe recently reached an agreement with Optimization Alternatives Ltd. Inc. (OA) under which the Class I will extend its use of the supplier's intermodal and automotive business software for five years.
BNSF plans to continue employing Optimization Alternatives Strategic Intermodal Scheduler; Gate Activity, Inspection and Tracking; and Driver Automated Gate software at its intermodal terminals. Since 1996, the railroad has used the software to manage gate processing and work orders, track inventory and reports, and provide automatic load planning.
BNSF also will continue to use OA's AutoTrack software to manage automotive yards, including car unloading and vehicle tracing. The Class I has used AutoTrack since 1999.
"The intermodal and automotive businesses collectively account for about 35 percent of BNSF's revenues, and they represent a segment with stringent customer and operational requirements," said BNSF Vice President of Business Development Fritz Draper in a prepared statement.
