FRA to launch Northeast Corridor environmental work
advertisement
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has issued a notice of intent that it will prepare an Environmental Impact Statement to evaluate potential passenger-rail improvements on the Northeast Corridor (NEC) between Washington, D.C. and Boston.
The FRA is leading the planning and environmental evaluation, known as NEC Future, in coordination with the states along the route, the Northeast Corridor Infrastructure and Operations Advisory Commission, Amtrak and other stakeholders. The program is aimed at defining current and future markets for improved rail service and capacity on the NEC, developing a plan to incrementally meet those needs and creating a regional planning framework to engage stakeholders throughout the region.
The FRA and other stakeholders recently launched a website to offer more information on the NEC Future initiative at www.NECfuture.com.
