CSX collaborates with wood fiber products shipper on service needs

CSX has forged a collaborative partnership with Sappi North America aimed at helping the wood fiber products manufacturer achieve its supply chain and transportation goals. 

Sappi produces graphic papers, packaging and dissolving pulp used in textiles, hygiene products and pharmaceuticals. Reliable transportation is critical to keeping the shipper’s operations running smoothly, CSX officials said in a press release. 

“Freight rail is a key component of our transportation network. We fully expect that our rail volume will grow,” said Mike Segal, Sappi North America’s director of logistics and operations planning. 

CSX understands the company’s challenges and network, and is helping to identify and resolve potential issues, he said. The railroad and manufacturer have worked together to develop shared key performance indicators to monitor progress and prevent delays. 

For example, the partners have established key performance indicators to better monitor congestion and service visibility. 

“This has strengthened our relationship with CSX and helped us move things forward,” said Segal.
