Union Pacific to boost train speed on Kansas line
advertisement
Union Pacific Railroad plans to increase train speed from 40 mph to 49 mph on nearly 22 miles of track between Wellington, Kan., and the Kansas-Oklahoma border.
Train speed will be increased by 5 mph on Dec. 1 and another 4 mph on Dec. 8, when the new maximum speed limit of 49 mph takes effect.
UP spent $28 million this year to improve track on the route by replacing rail and ties, installing switches and upgrading surfaces at grade crossings. Increased train speed typically reduces motorists' wait time at crossings and improves operating efficiency, UP officials said in a prepared statement.
