Union Pacific Railroad, Union Tank Car Co. and Dow Chemical Co. recently took a few more steps toward their goal of jointly developing a next-generation tank car to transport highly hazardous chemicals.
The companies created a joint project team to drive development efforts and established an advisory group to guide the team. The group comprises academic and haz-mat industry officials, and former regulatory leaders.
“Together with our partners in the chemical and rail-car industries, we are optimistic we can continue our improvement efforts with this new tank car design process,” said UP Vice President of Environment and Safety Bob Grimaila in a prepared statement.
