Union Pacific Railroad’s newest commemorative locomotive departed from a shipping facility near Corinne, Utah, on June 2, hauling solid rocket motor segments for NASA’s Artemis III lunar exploration program.

“As No. 4547 carries these rocket components, it represents the strength of our nation’s supply chain and our role in connecting the country – linking industries, communities and opportunity from our rail network to the surface of the moon," UP CEO Jim Vena said at an event marking the occasion.

Vena was joined by leaders from NASA, Northrop Grummam, which manufactured the Space Launch System boosters and Wabtec, which built the locomotive, as well as Utah elected officials.

The new locomotive is the third in UP’s presidential series: No. 1616 honors President Abraham Lincoln, No. 4141 honors President George H.W. Bush and No. 4547 recognizes the current president, Donald Trump.

Artemis III is planned as NASA’s second crewed mission in its Artemis lunar exploration program. It is expected to launch in 2027.
