TransLink and PCI Developments broke ground July 29 on a new mixed-use development at West Broadway and Arbutus in Vancouver.
The groundbreaking marks the start of TransLink's Real Estate Development Program, which is modeled on approaches used by leading transit agencies around the world, including Hong Kong’s MTR, TransLink officials said in a press release.
“Today’s groundbreaking is a historic milestone for TransLink,” said TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. “Some of the world’s most successful transit agencies have shown what is possible when transit development and community building go hand in hand. We are bringing that innovative approach to Metro Vancouver by building homes and businesses around transit, while creating a new long-term revenue stream that can be reinvested into our transportation system.”
Situated directly across from the future Arbutus Station on the SkyTrain Millennium Line and alongside the Arbutus Greenway, the Broadway-Arbutus development will include mixed-use residential and commercial property, including 256 homes, retail and community spaces and a public plaza directly connected to the Arbutus Greenway and Arbutus Station.
Construction of the Arbutus Station is expected to be complete in 2027; the Broadway-Arbutus development is projected to be finished in 2029, TransLink officials said.
