Koppers earlier this week hosted U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.) for a tour of its tie plant in Galesburg, Illinois.

The plant is a key supplier of treated wood products for the rail industry and supplies crossties to BNSF Railway Co.

Bustos also participated in a policy discussion that highlighted the issue of truck size and weight limits at the federal level, as well as the Building Rail Access for Customers and the Economy (BRACE) Act, which would make permanent the 45G short-line tax credit. Bustos is a co-sponsor of the legislation.

"Congresswoman Bustos serves in a crucial role in Washington, D.C., and we appreciate her leadership advocating for increased federal infrastructure investments," said Koppers Galesburg Plant Manager Jim Evans in a press release.

The National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association and the Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association coordinated Bustos' visit. Koppers is a member of both associations.
