The Maine Department of Transportation is seeking applicants for its 2027 Industrial Rail Access Program (IRAP), a public-private freight partnership program that provides financial assistance to businesses and shippers for investing in rail infrastructure.
Maine has allocated $2 million for competitive grants through IRAP in this round of funding. Recipients must provide a minimum 50% grant match from local or private industry funds, MaineDOT officials said in a press release. Applications are due Oct. 1. Funding will be allocated beginning in January and February 2027.
Applications will be rated on project criteria including potential for job creation/retention, new investment and intermodal efficiencies. MaineDOT will also take into consideration the private share of proposed project costs, and anticipated decreases in highway maintenance costs, highway congestion and air emissions.
