Wabtec Corp. has completed the acquisition of Dellner Couplers, a Sweden-based leader in engineered safety-critical train connection systems and services for passenger-rail rolling stock. The acquisition provides complementary technologies to Wabtec and positions the company for growth, while strengthening its portfolio of mission-critical passenger-rail systems, Wabtec officials said in a press release. Dellner has a global installed base of 100,000 couplers and 12,500 gangways. Dellner provides an extensive offering in train connection systems, with production, assembly and aftermarket services facilities in 13 countries serving over 200 customers. “The addition of Dellner Couplers aligns with our long-term vision of driving innovation, productivity, safety and reliability for passenger rail on a global scale," said Wabtec Transit President Pascal Schweitzer in a press release. Financial terms of the acquisition were not released.

STV Inc. has been selected to support the expansion of Utah Transit Authority’s (UTA) FrontRunner commuter-rail system. The nearly $1 billion FrontRunner 2X project calls for modernizing and expanding the 89-mile commuter-rail corridor between Ogden and Provo. Led by the Utah Department of Transportation, and in partnership with UTA and Union Pacific Railroad, the program will add double track in 11 strategic locations and includes 10 new trains, a new maintenance facility, signaling and infrastructure upgrades, targeted track realignments and a new station in Bluffdale. Working as a subconsultant to Horrocks Engineers, STV is leading the double-track design for two corridor segments between the Vineyard, Provo and Orem stations. STV will provide detailed engineering and constructability-focused design solutions, the company said in a press release, which did not include a financial value of the firm's contract.

AECOM has been selected to provide detailed design services for the Sydney Metro West Line Wide Systems package in a joint venture with WSP, supporting John Holland, the project lead and contractor, in Australia. Sydney Metro West is a transformative project that is expected to double rail capacity between Parramatta and Sydney's central business district. The joint venture will lead the design of the 15-mile, twin-bore tunnel fit-out, a new metro train depot and service facility, a new metro traction power system and tunnel ventilation system, and the train systems, operations and maintenance package, according to an AECOM press release. On the Sydney Metro West project, the joint venture’s advanced digital delivery approach will guide the design and management of this complex, major rail system, AECOM officials said.
