Wabtec has been awarded a contract to implement its Interoperable Electronic Train Management System — a positive train control (PTC) system — on Brazil's Carajás Railway and Vitória a Minas Railway. Both operated by Vale, the railways are Brazil's only two regularly operating passenger-rail lines. The PTC project has an estimated cost of Brazilian R$1 billion ($195 million) and will be completed in phases through 2031, Wabtec officials said in a press release. The PTC system will enhance predictability and reliability in railway operations through data transmission and monitoring technology, they added. Work includes integration of PTC technology with onboard systems and existing infrastructure.

AtkinsRealis Group Inc. and Siemens Mobility have signed a co-development contract for the systems component of TramCite, a public transit infrastructure project in Quebec City. The contract scope of work covers integration and implementation of rail systems and technologies, oversight of testing and commissioning and long-term maintenance, AtkinRealis officials said in a press release. Led by principal contractor CDPQ Infra, the TramCite project calls for development of about 27 miles of tramway lines, with 17 miles linking the Le Gendre, Sainte-Foy, Saint-Roch, Charlesbourg, Lebourgneuf and d’Estimauville districts, and 4 miles connecting the downtown areas of Quebec City and Levis via tunnel.

Pro-Vision Solutions, a provider of mobile video and fleet safety technology, has promoted Dan Strock to vice president of sales following the retirement of the company's former sales leader, Martin Schena. Strock has been with Pro-Vision for 12 years, most recently serving as director of sales for the commercial vertical. "We have strong momentum, trusted customer relationships and a growing portfolio of solutions that help fleets solve real safety and operational challenges. I look forward to building on that foundation," Strock said.

TÜV SÜD and MEDHA have signed a memorandum of understanding with Indian Railways to continue collaborating on hydrogen-based rail vehicle technologies for the Indian rail sector. The formal agreement comes following the successful completion of a flagship project under which the first hydrogen train developed in India was approved for operation by Indian Railways, TÜV SÜD officials said in a press release. The train entered service on July 17. MEDHA integrated the fuel cell-based drive system into a diesel electric multiple unit-vehicle platform and carried out testing and performance trials. TÜV SÜD carried out the independent safety assessments for the battery systems.
