Siemens has obtained a contract from the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA), operator of Tri-Rail commuter-rail service in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties, to provide seven advanced Charger diesel-electric locomotives. Expected to enter service in 2029, the new locomotives will enable full access to MiamiCentral Station, which requires rail equipment to meet specific operational and compliance requirements to access the station. The Chargers will replace SFRTA’s aging fleet of six EMD GP49 units, according to a Siemens press release, which did not mention the contract's dollar value.

Alstom has reached a C$2.3 billion agreement with the Toronto Transit Commission to manufacture 70 six-car subway trains to replace the fleet on the Toronto's Line 2. The trains will be designed and engineered in Canada, with final assembly in Thunder Bay and testing in Kingston, Ontario. The contract includes options for up to 150 additional trainsets as needed. Fifty-five of the 70 trains will replace the aging fleet on Line 2; the remaining 15 trains are planned to serve the Line 1 extension to Yonge North and the Line 2 extension to Scarborough, Ontario.

Delta Railroad Services announced it will host a field engineer internship program to be offered this summer. The program will provide hands-on experience supporting active construction projects while offering a clear growth path toward a future project management position, Delta officials said in a press release. The interns will work closely with the project manager and engineering team to assist with project planning, field execution, inspections, documentation and coordination with internal teams and external partners. Delta Railroad Services provides railroad construction and maintenance, equipment rental and manufactured and remanufactured maintenance-of-way equipment. Interested candidates can find more information about the program, specific departmental openings and application instructions here
