Stadler and Mount Rigi Railways have signed a contract for the delivery of four additional tailor-made rack-and-pinion trains in Switzerland. A contract value was not included in a Stadler press release. Custom designed for steep mountain slopes, the new vehicles will contribute to comfortable, reliable and sustainable mobility on Mount Rigi. With this order, both lines of the Mount Rigi Railways will be served by new vehicles. Seats on the trains are slightly reclined to compensate for the gradient during the journey. Also, as Mount Rigi is characterized by steep mountain slopes, the train is equipped with four powered cogwheel axles, which ensure a smooth ride even on steep gradients.
Vossloh has been awarded by SNCF Reseau a two-year contract with an option to extend for up to three additional years, starting in 2026, for extensive milling works on France’s rail network. The milling method enables complete machining of the rail profile in a single pass, depending on the depth of the defect and the condition of the rail. The combination of milling and integrated grinding precisely corrects the rail’s transverse and longitudinal profiles. The project is one of the largest single rail and switch maintenance contracts that Vossloh has been able to carry out in France to date, according to a company press release. A contract financial value was not disclosed.
