Cummins Inc. announced plans to invest more than $25 million into upgrading its engine manufacturing plant and high-horsepower headquarters in Seymour, Indiana, over the next several years. The investment will improve and refine the plant’s manufacturing capabilities to prepare for the addition of a new engine platform that will be launched in 2024, Cummins officials said in a press release. The Seymour engine plant produces diesel engines for the rail industry.

FreightCar America Inc. announced it has made significant progress in its manufacturing repositioning and business transformation strategy. The company has finalized early termination of the lease at its manufacturing facility in Cherokee, Alabama, effective Feb. 28, 2021, and completed Association of American Railroads certification audits for a new joint venture facility in Castanos, Mexico. FreightCar America also completed its first rail car at the Castanos facility, and obtained a new asset-backed credit facility to facilitate the business and repositioning process.

The Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA) selected Parsons Corp. to provide project and construction management, and staff assistant services for Metrolink’s  expansion, rehabilitation and state-of-good repair projects. Parsons is one of five engineering firms SCRRA selected for a three-year $50 million task order contract, Parsons officials said in a press release.

Hitachi Rail STS selected AdaCore's GNAT Pro Ada development environment targeting ARM processors for the modernization of its rail safety platform. The processors will ensure Hitachi’s Calculator of Available Safety platform will safely circulate trains on railway lines and metro networks, AdaCore officials said in a press release.

RailPros hired Mark Wheeland as senior vice president of service delivery for rail industry clients. Wheeland has 40 years of experience at Union Pacific Railroad, most recently serving as assistant VP of track maintenance in the southern region. He has also held leadership roles in the track maintenance, track programs and track welding departments.

Savage has been recognized as a “Military Friendly Employer” for the third consecutive year by Viqtory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs magazine. Through the Savage Patriots program, the company works to recruit, train and provide advancement opportunities for military veterans, active reserve members and military spouses, Savage officials said in a press release.
