AECOM has been awarded a framework contract to provide technical support for the design and construction stages of the Lyon-to-Turin high-speed rail line, a key element of the Trans-European Transport network that will connect Italy and France. At the heart of the project is a twin bored base tunnel that will be the longest railway tunnel ever built, AECOM officials said in a press release. Working in an international joint venture, AECOM has been appointed as delivery partner to the Tunnel Euralpin Lyon Turin. The company will help with the design, procurement and construction of the civil works, rail systems and the environmental protection measures for the rail line.
The Northwest Rapid Transit Consortium extended its existing public private partnership contract with Sydney Metro to operate and maintain a 41-mile, 31-station line from Rouse Hill to Bankstown, Australia, by 2024. Under the $385 million contract, Alstom will be responsible for the project management, design, supply, manufacturing, testing and commissioning of 23 six-car fully automated Metropolis trains and the Urbalis 400 communication-based train control signaling system. Meanwhile, Alstom also signed a $473 million contract with Metropole Aix-Marseille-Provence to develop, supply and install the operating system and equipment for automatic operation on the Marseille Metro in France. Alstom will commission 38 new trains and modernize passenger information inside the metro stations. The new trains are scheduled to enter service in early 2024.
Saft has delivered the last of its lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries to CAF Power & Automation (CAF P&A) for integration into the CAF Urbos trams in Birmingham, England. CAF P&A selected Saft Li-ion battery modules for its onboard energy storage systems. These are being retrofitted onto the roofs of 21 trams. During operation, the batteries charge on route sections served by catenaries. The battery modules will then provide traction power over several miles of track without catenary wires, Saft officials said in a press release.
Moment launched a multimedia platform for passenger railroads. Based on wireless technology and operating without connectivity, the platform enables riders to connect from their electronic devices, via browser or application, to movies, music and travel information. The platform was designed to enable railroads to analyze passenger data, provide more personalized onboard services and maintain contact with riders after their journey, Moment officials said in a press release.
The San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission selected Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) to provide rail engineering support service for its Altamont Corridor Express platform extension at Fremont Station in California. LAN will provide scheduling, cost estimating, public outreach and railroad coordination services for the project, which will extend the Fremont Station platform by 400 feet to accommodate 10-car trains.

Previously, he served as group managing director and chief executive officer of Hong Kong-based Modern Terminals Ltd. Ports America is a U.S. marine terminal operator and stevedore company that operates at more than 42 ports and 80 total locations.
