Chicago-based FreightCar America Inc., a manufacturer and supplier of railroad freight cars, rail-car parts and components, has acquired Southern Parts & Equipment (SP&E), a distributor of rail-car parts and equipment.
The transaction marks FreightCar America's second acquisition in the rail-car aftermarket space within the past year, following the acquisition of Carly Railcar Components LLC in December 2025.
“[SP&E] is a highly complementary addition to our growing aftermarket platform,” said Nicholas Randall, president and CEO of FreightCar America, in a press release. “This acquisition further strengthens our ability to support customers with improved access to critical rail-car components, while advancing our strategy to build complementary aftermarket capabilities that increase the value we deliver across the rail-car lifecycle.”
Founded in Monroe, Georgia, SP&E supplies repair shops, railroads, private car owners and other industrial customers with new, used and reconditioned rail-car components.
