Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight

Rail supplier news from Marmon, Transco, Alstom, Stadler, Bentley, Road & Rail and Strato (May 15)


Marmon Holdings Inc. announced the acquisition of Transco Railway Products Inc. from Transco Inc. Financial terms were not disclosed. Transco provides rail tank- and freight-car repair and maintenance, auto-rack certification and hopper car cleaning. The company will operate within Marmon’s rail and leasing sector in the rail-car repair service group, according to a Marmon press release. Bob Nelson, Transco's current president, will continue to lead the business.

Alstom will supply 16 six-car, electric Coradia Polyvalent trains to the Bourgogne-Franche-Comte region in France for about $191 million.The region previously ordered 24 four-car electric trains, 18 of which have been delivered, according to an Alstom press release. In a separate announcement, Alstom will deliver five additional Coradia Polyvalent dual-mode regional trains to Region Sud in France for about $36 million.

Bentley Systems Inc. made available its multidisciplinary application for the design, analysis, visualization and simulation of new or operating rail or metro stations. OpenBuildings Station Designer includes asset-specific content and workflows, according to a Bentley Systems press release. The application aims to streamline and automate design collaboration between architectural, mechanical, electrical and structural disciplines by sharing modeling, clash resolution and documentation capabilities.

Stadler US Inc. celebrated the grand opening of a new 230,000-square-foot train production plant in Utah, which will serve as the Swiss-based company’s U.S. headquarters. At the grand opening ceremony Stadler officials were joined by state and federal government officials, as well U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland Ed McMullen and Daniel Freihofer, minister counselor of the Embassy of Switzerland in the United States.

Road & Rail Services Inc. received a platinum-level award from Mosaic Co. for meeting and exceeding safety compliance for nine consecutive years, according to a Road & Rail Services press release.

Strato Inc. received TTX Co.’s 2018 Supplier Evaluation Committee Award for the 23rd consecutive year. TTX rated suppliers on quality, cost, delivery, service, finance and administration. Strato was designated an “excellent supplier” in two areas: the coupler, yoke and miscellaneous car part manufacturer category; and the component supplier category.
