Siemens Rail Systems and Cummins announced they formed a partnership to bring diesel-electric, Tier 4-compliant locomotives to the U.S. market. Cummins QSK95 diesel engines will be installed in Siemens' diesel-electric locomotives in the United States. The locomotives will be designed and built to provide a smoother, more reliable and energy-efficient riding experience, officials said in a joint press release. The state-of-the-art locomotives also will deploy a new engine after-treatment system that will deliver a cleaner ride with better air quality and reduced emission rates, they said.Norway's primary passenger-rail company, NSB, has chosen Nomad Digital to deploy its telemanagement solution on more than 140 trains. The solution will help NSB more efficiently monitor the condition of its entire fleet in an effort to reduce maintenance costs and increase fleet availability, company officials said in a press release. The telemanagement technology was developed by Nomad Tech, Nomad Digital's recently announced joint venture with EMEF. The technology is designed to incorporate condition-based monitoring and reliability centered maintenance and energy efficiency solutions. Heidkamp most recently was senior vice president of operations for FreightCar America. He previously spent 21 years with GATX in various leadership roles in government affairs, operations and finance. Awarded for a three-year period, the label recognizes French companies that maintain long-term, balanced relationships with suppliers and SMEs.John Howe has joined Parsons Brinckerhoff Halsall as vice president of strategic consulting. Previously, he was vice president of investment strategy and project evaluation at Metrolinx, where he led the development of a 25-year, $50 billion investment strategy to fund transportation infrastructure expansion. In his new role, Howe will lead the firm's strategic consulting practice, which provides management, financial and technical services to public agency clients involved with the development of transit systems and other transportation infrastructure.
Raymond Atkins has joined Sidley Austin L.L.P. as a partner and member of the firm’s transportation practice. Atkins most recently was general counsel of the Surface Transportation Board. In that role, Atkins was chief legal adviser to the independent federal agency that regulates the freight- and passenger-rail industries.
