Pencco Inc. last week opened a new chemical manufacturing facility in Gadsden, Alabama, situated on OmniTRAX Inc.'s Alabama & Tennessee River Railway LLC (ATN).

The $20 million facility will manufacture specialty chemicals for the treatment of water and wastewater. Pencco expects the facility will create 40 jobs in the manufacturing, transportation and engineering fields, according to a local news report.

"Pencco's investment reflects strong confidence in Gadsden and highlights what’s possible when industry, community and rail partners work together," OmniTRAX officials said in a LinkedIn post.

The manufacturer also partnered with the Gadsden-Etowah Industrial Development Authority and the Etowah Chamber of Commerce for the project.

The ATN operates over 120 miles of track from Birmingham, Alabama, to the rail barge terminal at the Port of Guntersville in Alabama. ATN also interchanges with CSX at the Boyles Yard in Birmingham and with Norfolk Southern Railway in Alabama City.
