Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad (CORP), a Genesee & Wyoming Inc. subsidiary, has opened a bulk transload facility in Dillard, Oregon.
As a G&W Choice Terminal, the Dillard facility will serve shippers that aren't located directly on rail lines by transferring bulk materials between trucks and rail cars, CORP officials said in a press release. CORP serves the facility once every week day.
CORP's Dillard facility can unload and reload five rail cars at once. The site also features a 20-car storage track and a small online warehouse for shippers to hold products in for just-in-time deliveries. The terminal handles primarily lumber, either from center beams or boxcars, and has the potential to tailor service for other bulk commodities, CORP officials said.
"Dillard is a prime location for this facility," said CORP General Manager John Bullion. "Given the number of industrial companies in the surrounding area. And our location right off Interstate 5 and about an hour from the coast gives coastal businesses an option to ship by rail."
CORP operates 306 miles of track from Springfield Junction, Oregon, to Black Butte, California. The short line interchanges with Union Pacific Railroad in Black Butte and Eugene, Oregon.
G&W acquired CORP in 2012.
