Tanco Terminals is expanding its liquid barge facility at the Ports of Indiana-Jeffersonville to support the demand for blended fertilizers in southern Indiana and northern Kentucky.
The $750,000 expansion includes the construction of two new 45,000-gallon tanks. Tanco Terminals' customer Premier Ag will use the tanks to blend fertilizer additives on an order-by-order basis for local soil conditions, port officials said in a press release.
"Premier Ag's commitment to the Jeffersonville facility was a major driver in our investments, which not only meet today's needs but also anticipate future growth," said Kip Middendorf, vice president and managing director of Tanco Terminals.
Future expansions are planned for up to four additional tanks. Tanco Terminals is also developing facilities that will allow Premier Ag to operate at all hours during peak agricultural seasons, port officials said. Tanco's port facility receives liquid shipments from around the world via barge, rail and truck.
The Louisville and Indiana Railroad serves the port with connections to CSX and Norfolk Southern Railway.
