The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) Police Department (PAPD) yesterday reached record staff levels following the graduation of 120 officers to the force.

The PAPD now totals 2,232 officers and employees. The new recruits include 89 college graduates and 20 military veterans, with 53 having prior law enforce experience, PANYNJ officials said in a press release.

“This increase is essential to the port authority’s ongoing commitment to provide first-class safety and security at the agency’s air, land, rail and sea facilities,” said PANYNJ Executive Director Rick Cotton.

The PAPD is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the agency's Port Authority Trans-Hudson rail system, regional ports in New York and New Jersey, and other PANYNJ facilities.
